Detection Precision and Speed

Petra immediately flagged 4 compromises Huntress missed.

Over the first month running Petra and Huntress side-by-side, Petra surfaced 4 account compromises that Huntress ITDR did not alert on. All 4 used residential proxy toolkits, a tactic that routes attacker traffic through local residential IP addresses rather than VPN infrastructure. The attackers used Canadian residential IPs, so Huntress's location-based detection had nothing to flag, even when attackers pivoted to access sensitive emails.

On 2 additional incidents where both tools were running, Petra got there first each time:

  • Petra detected the first incident 2 minutes and 30 seconds after logs were published. Huntress detected it at 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
  • Petra detected the second incident 36 seconds after logs were published. Huntress detected it at 9 minutes.

Across the 3 most recent live attacks under Petra's watch, attackers accessed 0 emails and 0 documents.

After the 4 missed detections, Alex went to Huntress's incident chat to get someone on the phone. He eventually reached them, but the conversation didn't resolve his questions about what the Microsoft logs were showing.
